On July 31, 2025, the Royal Thai Consulate-General in New York organized a volunteer activity tribute to His Majesty the King's Birthday Anniversary on July 28, 2025. On this special occasion, Ms. Somjai Taphaopong, Consul General in New York, officials and staff of the Royal Thai Consulate General in New York and Team Thailand in New York City jointly contributed a dried, ready-to-eat, and canned food amount to 1,080 pounds (490 kgs) to the City Harvest. Vasinee Food Corporation, a major Thai food importer in the United States, also joined in this activity by donating Thai dried food and beverages to the City Harvest as well.
City Harvest is a non-profit organization that has been in operation for over 40 years of dedicated to ending hunger in New York City, since 1982. Its mission is to end hunger and manage surplus food that is still safe to eat in communities through sustainable food distribution. City Harvest raises funds, accepts food donations, collects surplus food from restaurants, bakeries, markets, and producers and distributes to partner organizations such as community food drives, food pantries, and Mobile Markets. City Harvest currently distributes more than 200,000 pounds of food daily. Using a network of approximately 23 trucks to pick up food from approximately 1,700 donor locations and deliver it to over 400 partner organizations throughout the five boroughs of New York City. Ms. Hong Thaimee, a Thai chef who supports City Harvest's mission as a member of the organization's Food Council, is also joining the organization’s activity and helping to advance the organization's mission to fight hunger.
This event not only tributes His Majesty the King of Thailand, but also recognizes the significance of food security for humanity, a priority of food management and sustainability. It is also an opportunity to raise awareness about Thailand and to create interactions between the Royal Thai Consulate General in New York staffs and Team Thailand agencies with City Harvest, an organization focused on sustainably eliminating hunger and food security, which helps promote the constructive role of the Royal Thai Consulate General in New York and Team Thailand Agencies in living together in society and supporting each other with local communities for the benefits of the public.
