On May 5, 2025, Ms. Somjai Taphaopong, Consul General of Thailand in New York, along with officials from the Royal Thai Consulate General, attended the Centennial Gala of the Society of Foreign Consuls in New York, held at the historic Surrogate’s Courthouse in Manhattan. The event brought together over 200 esteemed guests—including members of the diplomatic corps and international organizations, senior city and state officials, and representatives from various partner organizations.

 

     Under the theme “A Legacy of Diplomacy, A Future of Possibilities,” the celebration honored the Society of Foreign Consuls’ century-long commitment to fostering international dialogue, cooperation, and mutual understanding between the United States and the global community.

 

     In his remarks on behalf of Mayor Eric L. Adams, First Deputy Mayor Randy Mastro expressed appreciation for the SoFC’s enduring contributions and affirmed its pivotal role in shaping New York City’s identity as a crossroads of cultures - home to diverse ethnicities, languages, and cultural traditions. The SoFC stands as a powerful reminder that diplomacy is not a luxury, but a vital instrument that transforms goodwill from global communities into enduring partnerships at the local level.

 

     Reflecting the rich cultural diversity that defines New York City, the event featured an Experiential Multicultural Bar - a vibrant showcase of unique beverages generously provided by member countries of the Society of Foreign Consuls. On this occasion, the Royal Thai Consulate General extended an invitation to distinguished Thai entrepreneurs to take part in the event, recognizing it as a valuable opportunity to promote Thai flavors and strengthen Thailand’s business presence in New York. Among them were Ms. Suchittra Paleewong, President of Paleewong Trading Co., Inc., who generously provided Thailand’s renowned beer for the occasion, and Mr. Salang Niphitkunthong, a leading importer of Thai Orchid products in the United States and owner of Thai restaurants in New York, whose participation was greatly appreciated.
