On 19 July 2025, Consul General Ms. Somjai Taphapong joined the reception “Thai Cinema Flies to New York,” co hosted by the New York Asian Film Foundation and the Thailand Creative Culture Agency (THACCA). The event marked the arrival of 7 Thai films at this year’s New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF), held from 11 - 27 July 2025, with screening at Film at Lincoln Center to an enthusiastic New York audience:

     In her welcoming remarks, the Consul General expressed heartfelt thanks to THACCA and the NY Asian Film Festival for showcasing Thai stories and supporting talented storytellers on one of New York’s most prestigious film stages. She highlighted that participating in the festival not only fosters valuable networking among professionals in the film industry but also enhances international exposure for Thai filmmakers and expands business opportunities - further positioning Thailand as a premier destination for global productions.

 

     On 25 July 2025, Ms. Somjai met with Mr. Donsaron Kovitvanitcha, Sub committee Member for Film Industry Development, and the directors of Shutter, The Stone, and 404 Run Run to review NYAFF feedback, explore strategic directions to sustain Thai cinema’s visibility at international festivals, recognizing that such exposure not only expands global audiences but also opens doors for deeper engagement with Thailand’s tourism, cuisine, arts, and culture.
