On July 9–10, 2025, Ms. Somjai Taphaopong, Consul General of Thailand in New York, and Ms. Kessuree Vijaranakorn, Senior Director of Thai Trade Center, New York, participated in activities under the Thai Rice Promotion Project in the U.S. market, organized by the Thai Trade Center, New York. The project aims to highlight the diversity and versatility of Thai rice in global culinary creations.
The project featured activities included (1) “Unlock the Secret of Thai Rice with Chef Arnold Myint,” held on July 9 at the Institute of Culinary Education (ICE). Thai-American Chef Arnold Myint - James Beard Foundation’s 2024 Best Chef Southeast nominee - introduced ICE students, food writers, and influencers to the unique qualities of Thai rice. He demonstrated creative Thai and Western-style dishes such as larb kai with sticky rice, riceberry salad, and a sticky rice tart with mixed fruits. At the event, Consul General Somjai expressed appreciation to the Thai Trade Center New York and ICE, highlighted the nutritional value of Thai rice, and discussed potential future collaboration with ICE.
(2) Thai Rice: A Journey Beyond Borders On July 10 at Platform by the James Beard Foundation (Pier 57), the Thai Trade Center hosted a dinner for food writers, influencers, importers, and guests to experience Thai rice in innovative forms. The menu was crafted by Michelin-starred Chef Noah Sandoval, Chef Natwalan Limwong (Chalong), Chef Max Wittawat, and award-winning bartender Suwincha Singsuwan (Bangkok Supper Club). Guests were impressed by the flavors and new presentations of Thai rice.
On this occasion, Consul General Somjai emphasized to attendees that “Rice is our life”—a symbol of Thai identity and a bridge connecting Thailand with the world. She also commended the creativity and inspiration of the new generation of Thai chefs in elevating Thai cuisine internationally.
