On October 15, 2025, Ms. Somjai Taphaopong, Consul General of Thailand in New York, paid a courtesy call on Ms. Aissata Camara on her appointment as Commissioner for International Affairs at the Office of the Mayor of New York City in July 2025. The Consul General was accompanied by officials from the Royal Thai Consulate-General to extend congratulations and introduce the Consulate’s team.
In this opportunity, Consul General Somjai shared information on the Consulate’s work and the Thai community in New York. Both sides discussed the rights, welfare, and access to services of the immigrants in the city, as well as ways to promote mutual understanding in New York’s multicultural society through people-to-people exchanges.
The Consul General also warmly invited Commissioner Camara and her team to visit Thai community landmarks and the Thai Cultural Center in New York to learn more about the community’s activities and contributions.
Commissioner Camara showed her interest in exploring potential subnational cooperation (city-to city) and exchanges of best practices. She reaffirmed her office’s commitment to serving as a bridge in connecting and strengthening partnerships between consular missions and local communities across New York City
