On 30 October 2025, Ms. Somjai Taphaopong, Consul General of Thailand in New York, was designated, on behalf of the Ambassador of Thailand to the United States, to lead the delegation from the Office of the Board of Investment (BOI) New York, together with the Royal Thai Embassy in Washington, and the Royal Thai Consulate General in New York, on a visit to the IBM Research Center in Yorktown Heights, New York - a global innovation hub for semiconductor, artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and cloud technologies.
During the meeting with Mr. Mukesh Khare, General Manager of IBM Semiconductors Division and Vice President of Hybrid Cloud Research at IBM Research Center, the Thai delegation reaffirmed Thailand’s readiness to cooperate with IBM in the semiconductor sector. Both sides also discussed ways to promote collaboration in human resource development and strengthen the semiconductor supply chain to enhance Thailand’s competitiveness and readiness for future high-technology industries.
On this occasion, the delegation was given a briefing from senior IBM directors on a tour of the Microelectronics Research Lab (MRL), a key facility for semiconductor chip development, and the Think Lab, which showcases the mechanisms of quantum computing, one of the most advanced computing technologies in the world today.
