Exploring Academic Cooperation with the University of Cincinnati and Professional Development with Thai Executives in the U.S. Private Sector

On August 28, 2025, Ms. Somjai Taphaopong, Consul General of Thailand in New York and Ms. Katesuda Thongna, Consul together with the Consulate officers, met with Dr. Raj Mehta, Vice Provost for International Affairs, and the UC International team at the University of Cincinnati (UC) to explore academic cooperation and human resource development.
 
University of Cincinnati (UC) is recognized for its Cooperative Education model which student has both classroom study and gain experience from selective field. UC has active partnerships with Thai institutions, including Boromarajonani College of Nursing Saraburi, Chiang Mai University, and Khon Kaen University. Dr. Mehta emphasized that Thailand is among UC’s key target strategic partners for future collaboration.
 
At the meeting, the Consul General highlighted the importance of academic cooperation in strengthening Thailand–U.S. relations and expressed readiness to bridge with relevant Thai agencies to support collaboration in areas of mutual interest. These would include professional training in elderly and patient care as well as the promotion of Thai language and Thai Studies within UC’s Asian Studies program.
 
During the same visit, on August 29, 2025, the Consul General also met with Ms. Juthapat Boonyawongsakorn, Vice President of Supply Chain Innovation Delivery, System and Automation, and Ms. Phenphan Kitthajaroenchai, Engineering & Innovation Market Operation Director at Procter & Gamble (P&G), headquartered in Cincinnati. The discussion focused on expanding internship opportunities for Thai students, both in Thailand and in the U.S., particularly with leading American companies that also operate in Thailand. Such programs would enable students to gain hands-on international experience and bring back valuable knowledge and skills to contribute to the country’s future development.
