On September 18, 2025, Ms. Somjai Taphaopong, Consul General of Thailand in New York, together with Ms. Katesuda Thongna, Consul, joined the TASTE of Thai SELECT event organized by Thai Trade Center, New York at One Chase Manhattan Plaza. The opening ceremony was honored by the presence of Mrs. Suparporn Sookmark, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Trade Promotion, Ministry of Commerce, who presided over the event.

 

The event featured food and beverage stalls from 16 Thai-SELECT certified restaurants in New York, aimed at promoting greater recognition of Thai SELECT certification and encouraging wider appreciation of authentic Thai cuisine. The event also highlighted Thai products available on Amazon.com under the “TOPTHAI x Amazon” project, drawing a large and lively crowd.

In her welcoming remarks, Consul General Somjai highlighted the distinctive essence of Thai cuisine that can be seen as a form of art - diverse in flavors, refined in its beauty and presentation, enriched by the unique aromas of Thai herbs, and deeply rooted in the fascinating history behind each dish. She also encouraged guests to continue supporting the more than 80 Thai SELECT-awarded restaurants across New York City.

 

In addition, Team Thailand agencies in New York came together to showcase the charm of Thainess and appeal of Thailand. The Royal Thai Consulate-General in New York presented exquisite fruit and vegetable carving while also providing consular information to the public, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (New York Office) promoted Thailand’s travel destinations, and the Thailand Board of Investment (New York Office) shared information on the country’s economic potential. Traditional Thai music and dance performances by members of the Thai community in New York further enriched the event, offering guests a vibrant taste of Thai culture and hospitality.
