On December 18, 2024, Miss Somjai Taphaopong, Consul General of Thailand in New York, along with Consul Athikom Daengpun and Consul Katesuda Thongna, attended and supported a new generation of Thai artists showcasing their performances at the Thai Theatre Showcase. Organized by the Thai Theatre Foundation at The Drama League in New York City, the event provided a platform for young Thai artists, including students pursuing performing arts in New York, to present their work, gain recognition, and build networks. The showcase featured seven performances by a group of 16 Thai and international artists.

 

     During the event, Consul General Taphaopong delivered opening remarks, commending the Thai Theatre Foundation for fostering a sense of community among young Thai artists in New York and providing a platform for their creativity to shine. She also expressed her readiness to support these artists as they contribute to advancing Thai soft power in the arts and promoting Thailand’s creative economy on the global stage.

 

     In addition, on December 13, 2024, Consul General Somjai and officials from the Royal Thai Consulate-General attended a production of Into the Woods at LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and Performing Arts, one of New York’s premier performing arts schools. The production featured Naphat Sathienthirakul (Luke), a talented young Thai artist and rising star with prior Broadway experience. Luke’s impressive performance highlighted his vocal and theatrical abilities.

Following the performance, Consul General Taphaopong presented flowers to Luke and his family, offering her best wishes for his continued success. She expressed her hope that he would inspire others and contribute to the development of Thai theater in the future.
