"Continuing to Promote Thai Language, Arts, Culture, and Thai Studies Across the Consular Jurisdiction"

Throughout September 2026, the Royal Thai Consulate General in New York continued its support for Thai language instruction, cultural education, and Thai Studies at academic institutions, Thai temples, and cultural organizations across its consular jurisdiction. These ongoing efforts help preserve Thai heritage, promote a deeper understanding and presence of Thai culture, and strengthen connections between generations.

This year, the Royal Thai Consulate General supports its contributions to six (6) institutions and organizations with a longstanding commitment to promoting Thai language, arts, culture, and Thai Studies, as follows;

1. Two leading U.S. universities, Cornell University (New York) and Ohio University (Ohio), Both universities offer Thai language and Thai Studies courses, giving students opportunities to learn about Thailand through language and academic study. Students also participate in Thai cultural activities, helping raise awareness of Thailand and foster greater interest in Thai culture among younger generations in the United States.

2. Sunday Buddhist schools at three Thai temples:
The Consulate General supported the Sunday Buddhist schools at Wat Vajiradhammapadip (New York), Wat Mongkolthepmuni (Pennsylvania) and Wat Navamintararajudis Meditation Center (Massachusetts) These schools provide Thai and Thai-American youth with opportunities to learn Thai language, music, and classical dance, while celebrating major Thai festivals and preserving cherished traditions. They also serve as important community centers for nurturing Thai identity and passing cultural heritage on to the next generation.
In addition, on 25 September 2026, the committee and volunteer teachers of Wat Mongkolthepmuni’s Sunday Buddhist School, led by School Director Phra Khru Sophon Ratchawithet, paid a courtesy call on the Consul General and received a contribution for the school. They also shared the school’s achievements in the 2025 academic year, including instruction in Thai language, traditional music, classical dance, and basic Buddhist teachings, which attracted approximately 70 students from Thai, Thai-American, and interested locals, as well as plans for the new academic year beginning in October 2026.

3. Thai Cultural Center of New York which has taught Thai language, music, and classical dance to Thai and Thai-American youth for almost 40 years and now also welcomes interested foreigners. The Center regularly organizes activities to preserve Thai traditions and serves as a platform that strengthens the network of Thai parents and the Thai community in New York.
The Consulate General commends and thanks every organization for being a vital force in promoting Thai language and culture, passing Thai heritage on to the younger generation of Thais and Thai-Americans, and building appreciation for Thailand among international audiences.
