On May 13, 2025, Ms. Somjai Taphaopong, Consul General of Thailand in New York, attended the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage reception hosted by Mr. Eric Adams, Mayor of New York City at Gracie Mansion. The reception welcomed members of AAPI communities, including Thais, residing in New York City to celebrate together this special occasion.
Mayor Adams, in his speech, praised the AAPI New Yorkers as an essential part of the American Dream and the long and rich history of New York City. AAPI communities play vital roles across all professional sectors, contributing to the diversity that is a defining strength of New York City. On this occasion, he reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the AAPI communities in various aspects, including public safety and economic development. He also presented certificates of recognition to community leaders in honor of their outstanding dedication to community engagement.
Each May, in celebration of the AAPI Heritage Month in the U.S., the Thai community actively organizes and participates in events that underscore the importance of the AAPI contributions. Most recently, the collaboration between the community and local authorities in hosting a series of Songkran celebrations, along with the recurring adoption of the Songkran Resolution by the New York State Assembly, serves as a testament to the Thai community’s harmonious spirit and its strong sense of unity with the City of New York.
