22nd Vajira Concert "Soul of Siam"

On May 24, 2026, Miss Somjai Taphaopong, Consul General of Thailand in New York, accompanied by Consul Miss Thammajit Thitimontre, attended the 22nd Vajira Concert at Wat Vajiradhammapadip in New York. The event was co organized by the Sunday Buddhist School of Wat Vajiradhammapadip, volunteer teachers from the temple, and volunteer teachers from various states under the Program for the Promotion of Thai Language and Culture Teaching Abroad (Batch 41), Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University.

On this occasion, the Consul General was invited to preside over the opening ceremony and deliver the opening remarks. She expressed her gratitude to all sectors involved, including the Vajira Concert Organizing Committee, volunteer teachers, volunteers, and Wat Vajiradhammapadip. She also presented certificates of appreciation to the volunteer teachers and individuals who have contributed to the Thai community. The Consul General highlighted that the concert's 22 year continuity reflects the solidarity of the Thai community and their enduring love for their homeland, showcasing Thailand's rich traditions and beautiful culture abroad while instilling Thai identity in youth born and raised in the United States.

The event featured cultural performances, including Thai traditional dance, traditional music, Lamtat (Thai folk performance), and a Khon (masked dance) performance of the Ramakien, featuring the episodes "The Abduction of Sida and Pursuing the Golden Deer" and "The Battle." These performances were staged by volunteer teachers and students from the Sunday Buddhist School of Wat Vajiradhammapadip, alongside volunteer teachers, volunteers from various cities across the U.S., and the Thai Dance Association of New York.

Furthermore, the Consul-General and consular officers paid their respects to Ven. Phra Kittiyanavithet (Pradit Yanakitti), Abbot of Wat Vajiradhammapadip, and presented him with traditional offerings. Thai temples consistently serve as the spiritual centers for the Thai diaspora and the dedicated venues for key cultural activities relating to Thailand.
