Supporting the Promotion of Thai Cuisine in United States

On August 6, 2026, Ms. Somjai Taphaopong, Consul General of Thailand in New York, together with officials from the Royal Thai Consulate-General in New York, attended “Soul of Thai Cuisine: A Chef’s Love Letter to Thailand” at the Pier 57 Platform of the James Beard Foundation in New York City, at the invitation of the Thai Trade Center, New York.

Following the opening remarks by Mr. Thanakrit Luangasnathip, Director of the Thai Trade Center, New York, the Consul General expressed her appreciation to the Thai Trade Center and the James Beard Foundation, a renowned American culinary organization named after the celebrated American chef and food writer James Beard. She also congratulated them on their continued efforts to promote the image and reputation of Thai cuisine, as well as their collaboration with Thai restaurants in New York City and neighboring states.

This year’s event featured a fine-dining experience showcasing both Thai cuisine and cocktails inspired by the flavors, charm, and unique identity of Thailand. The dishes and beverages were created by chefs and bartenders from four Thai restaurants awarded the Thai SELECT certification: Chalong, Lalyn, Tiki Thai, and Untable. The event was attended by more than 50 guests, including journalists, writers, food influencers, and Thai restaurant owners. Their participation represents an important network in advancing and promoting the image of Thai cuisine and helping it gain greater recognition and appreciation throughout the United States.
