On January 10, 2025, Ms. Somjai Taphaopong, Consul General of Thailand in New York, along with officials from the Royal Thai Consulate-General, participated in the SOFC Art & Diplomacy Exhibition organized by The Society of Foreign Consuls in New York, Inc. (SoFC) in collaboration with the Consulate General of Morocco. The event was held to promote diversity and cultural diplomacy through art while commemorating the 100th anniversary of SoFC’s establishment. The exhibition was attended by over 150 participants, including members of foreign consulates, officials from New York City and the U.S. Department of State, and other distinguished guests.

The exhibition featured an array of artistic contributions, including paintings, sculptures, craftsmanship, and performing arts from 12 member countries, celebrating the richness and diversity of their cultural heritage and distinction. Attendees also enjoyed an immersive culinary experience through sampling teas, beverages, and snacks which are renowned export products from several member countries. On this occasion, the Royal Consulate General proudly showcased the vibrant performing arts of Northeastern Thailand (Isaan) traditional music and dance, distinguished by traditional instruments such as the pong lang, khaen, and phin, as well as dances (fon) that depicted the rural way of life.

The performance was led by Mr. Natthawut Saenghiran and Mr. Natthavorn Tabkeaw, volunteer teachers from the Sunday Buddhist School at Wat Vajiradhammapadip in New York, along with Ms. Sara Hilany and Ms. Patchanun Kerdlap, Thai-American youth performers. The audience expressed admiration for the lively melodies and vibrant rhythms of Isaan music presented in the joyous atmosphere as well as their appreciation for the exquisite craftsmanship of the traditional local costumes.

The Royal Thai Consulate-General extends its heartfelt appreciation to the volunteer teachers and Thai youths for their outstanding performance. The Consulate-General is committed to supporting Thai individuals and communities in showcasing various forms of art and culture. This effort aligns with Thailand's policy to promote its soft power internationally, fostering greater appreciation and visibility for Thai cultural heritage within American society and beyond.
