On October 17, 2025, Ms. Somjai Taphaopong, Consul General of Thailand in New York, in her capacity as a member of the Executive Committee representing the East Asia and Pacific region of the Society of Foreign Consuls in New York (SoFC), attended the Committee’s Executive Meeting chaired by Ms. Maia Bartaia, Consul General of Georgia in New York.
The October 2025 meeting of the SoFC Executive Committee discussed the SoFC’s upcoming plans and activities for the period of October 2025 to January 2026, as well as ways to enhance collaboration with the City of New York in promoting the engagement of international communities and strengthening the city’s multicultural identity. The Committee also explored opportunities for cooperation with the Consular Corps Association of Philadelphia.
On this occasion, Consul General Somjai also hosted a luncheon for members of the SoFC Executive Committee following the meeting, featuring Thai cuisine to promote Thailand’s culinary culture among the Committee members, which this meeting included Consuls General from various regions such as Bulgaria, Georgia, Morocco, the Philippines, Peru, Serbia, and South Africa.
Established in 1925, the SoFC aims to foster goodwill and cooperation between the consular corps and various sectors of New York City and State. With the current members from over
50 countries and territories, it is recognized as the largest consular association in the world. The Executive Committee comprises 16 members representing different regions, and Consul General Somjai currently serves as a member of the executive committee for Jume 2025 -June 2026 term.
