"Strengthening Skills and Advancing Thai Massage Standards in in New York and Nearby States"
On April 29, 2026, the Royal Thai Consulate-General in New York, in collaboration with the Nuad Thai and Spa Association of America, organized a skill development workshop and a panel discussion titled "Thai Massage Talk" at the Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel with 12 Thai and American massage therapists in attendance.
Ms. Somjai Taphaopong, Consul General of Thailand, delivered the opening remarks and expressed her gratitude to the Association and the participants, noting that this event serves as a "starting point" for a collaboration aimed at strengthening the capabilities of practitioners and elevating professional standards in New York and the U.S. Northeast to foster sustainable growth and broader recognition. Ms. Saranyanat Kasemsuwan Bohn, President of the Association, welcomed the attendees and introduced the guest instructors, including Ms. Pinyapatch Chanyathunyaroj, the Association's Northeast Regional Director, who demonstrated the Thai Side-lying Rebalance technique, and Mr. Tritossayut Khamngam, the 2025 USA Thai Massage Championship winner, who showcased the Thai Seated Massage technique.
The event also featured the "Thai Massage Talk" session where participants exchanged information and experiences regarding market trends and consumer behavior in New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. The discussion focused on identifying opportunities, navigating professional challenges, and ensuring practices align with local standards and legal regulations, with insights provided by the Association’s President, Secretary Mr. Chakkri Krai, and New York Coordinator Ms. Sirikarn Buonocore.
This initiative marks a significant step in strengthening the network of Thai massage professionals within the consular district by maintaining high quality standards, creating value, and elevating the traditional art of "Nuad Thai" to promote Thailand's wellness economy on an international scale and ensure its long-term sustainability.
