Promoting Academic Cooperation on Thailand with the Fletcher School, Tufts University, Massachusetts

     On 26 February 2026, Ms. Somjai Taphaopong, Consul General in New York, accompanied by Ms. Katesuda Thongna, Consul, met with Ms. Ellen McDonald, Director of the Edwin Ginn Library at the Fletcher School, Tufts University, to discuss ways to promote academic cooperation on Thailand and to enhance the knowledge about Thailand for students, researchers, and interested audiences.
 
     The Consul General introduced the role of the Thailand Foundation, under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, which works the Diplomacy TrackII to promote Thailand’s cultural presence and foster mutual understanding between Thailand and the international community. The Foundation supports initiatives that showcase various aspects of Thai identity, including history, arts and culture, language, cuisine, and tourism. Its activities include supporting Thai Studies and Thai language programs overseas, developing self-learning Thai language programs for foreigners, as well as providing publications and establishing Thai Corners in educational institutions abroad.
 
     On this occasion, the Edwin Ginn Library expressed interest in receiving support for books on Thailand to be used as teaching materials for the School. Both sides also discussed possible future cooperation, such as organizing seminars or academic activities related to Thailand.
 
     The Consul General also presented books on Thai history, international relations, and Thai arts and culture, along with a collection of Thailand–U.S. agreements, to the library for use as reference materials. Following the discussion, Ms. McDonald led the delegation on a tour of the Edwin Ginn Library and shared the history and role of the library in supporting international relations studies at the Fletcher School.
